Preparations for Workers' Week startThursday, April 23, 2015
PREPARATIONS are currently underway by the Ministry of Youth and Culture for this year's observance of Workers' Week, which commences on Sunday, May 17, and culminates on Labour Day, Monday, May 25.
Labour Day is being observed Monday, May 25, instead of the traditional May 23, which, this year falls on a Saturday.
Its rescheduling is consistent with provisions under the Schedule of the Holidays (Public General) Act, which stipulates that where National Labour Day, May 23, falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it shall be observed on the first Monday, thereafter.
A Labour Day Planning Committee, chaired by Youth and Culture Minister Lisa Hanna, has been meeting to discuss, plan, and develop activities earmarked for the period.
Speaking with JIS News, Hanna said the members have had wide-ranging discussions on various aspects of this year's activities, which include finalising themes, and proposed national and parish projects.
