Two men perish in St Andrew house fireFriday, May 01, 2015
THE bodies of two men, believed to be brothers, were yesterday found in a four-room house that was destroyed by fire in the Eastwood Park Road area of St Andrew.
The Constabulary Communication Unit, the police information arm, reported that about 2:30 am residents saw smoke coming from a house in the area and raised an alarm.
Firefighters and a team of police responded to the call. A total of three units from York Park, Half Way Tree and Trench Town were used to put out the blaze, the authorities reported.
A search was carried out in the house and the charred remains of the men found among the rubble, triggering shock among residents of the community.
"Early this morning I was walking on the road when I saw a group of people standing by the road. When I went to inspect what was happening I realized that a house was on fire," one resident said.
Residents said that when they went to assist the police in the search of the premises the bodies of the two men were found.
Estimated loss in the fire is still being assessed.
