Hermine Roberts hailed as loving, kind, hard-working mom
Hermine Roberts was on Sunday eulogised as a loving, kind, hard-working woman who did everything she could to take care of her family.
Roberts, who passed on September 16, 2022 at age 81, was born in Essex Hall, St Andrew. She attended Essex Hall Primary School and when she eventually became old enough to be employed she secured a job as a domestic helper in the Grants Pen area of St Andrew.
Her grandson Marcodene Henry, who gave the eulogy, said Sister Hermine, as Roberts was affectionately called, also “immersed herself in the field of agriculture, working as a poultry farmer for many years”.
He said she also planted yam, bananas, pumpkin and sugar cane “which she would give away to anyone who was fortunate enough to know her”.
Additionally, Henry told mourners inside Everton Park Seventh-day Adventist Church in St Andrew, Roberts — who had 10 children — made straw hats which she sold at the Kingston Craft Market downtown in the capital city.
His grandmother, he said, lived not only for herself as she always sought to help other people, making their lives bright and bringing them joy.
Added Henry: “Seeing so many people here today paying their final respects to Sister Hermine shows just how well-loved she was and how much she will be missed by all.”
