#ParisOlympics: Busy Wednesday in Paris with 21 J’can athletes set to compete

KINGSTON, Jamaica— Twenty-one Jamaicans will be in action in two sports on Wednesday, in what is expected to be a busy day for Jamaican athletes at the Olympic Games in Paris, France.

In addition to diver Yona Knight-Wisdom contesting the semi-finals of the men’s 3m springboard at the Aquatic Centre, action in the nearby Stade de France where the track and field is being held, is expected to be exciting.

Medals will be at stake in the men’s discus throw where Roje Stona, Traves Smikle and Ralford Mullings will create history with three men in the final.

They will hope to take it a step further by winning a medal, joining Rajindra Campbell who won bronze in the men’s shot put earlier.

Men’s high jumper Romaine Beckford, 800m runner Navasky Anderson and three women’s sprint hurdlers Danielle Williams, Ackera Nugent and Janeek Brown will make their first appearance in the morning session.

Jordan Scott and Jaydon Hibbert will compete in the first round of the men’s triple jump in the afternoon.

Also later in the day a number of Jamaicans will be seeking to get into medal contention when they compete in semi-finals. Hansle Parchment, Rasheed Broadbell and Orlando Bennett are set to line up in the 110m hurdles.

Jaheel Hyde, Malik James-King and Roshawn Clarke are in the semi-finals of the men’s 400m hurdles, while world leader Nickisha Pryce, Junelle Bromfield and Stacey Ann Williams will contest the semis of the women’s 400m.

Bryan Levell, who survived the repechage round, will contest the semi-finals of the men’s 200m, while Adelle Tracey will take part in the repechage round of the women’s 1500m.
