#ParisOlympics: Jaydon Hibbert into triple jump final

KINGSTON, Jamaica — World Under-20 record holder Jaydon Hibbert advanced to the final of the men’s triple jump at the Olympic Games at Stade de France, Paris on Wednesday, qualifying with 16.99m (0.5m/s) in sixth place overall.

Unlike last year when he needed just one jump to qualify for the final at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Hibbert had to take all three jumps as just four jumpers got over the 17.10m automatic qualifying mark.

Jordan Scott, the other Jamaican in the event, failed to advance after he managed 16.36m (0.3m/s) for ninth in his group.

Hibbert’s best mark came in the first round, followed by 16.95m after which he fouled the final jump.

Former Cuban representatives, defending champion Pablo Pedro Pichardo of Portugal- 17.44m, Spain’s Jordan Alejandro Diaz Fortun- 17.24m, as well as American Salif Mane- 17.16m and World Champion Hugues Fabrice Zango of Burkino Faso- 17.16m, all only needed one jump to get into the final.
