#ParisOlympics: Beckford places 10th in men’s high jump
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Romaine Beckford finished 10th in the men’s high jump on Saturday’s final day of the track and field competition at the Olympic Games at Stade de France in Paris.
Beckford cleared 2.22m.
As he did in the preliminary rounds, he failed to get over 2.27m, his personal best height which he cleared in the indoor season while competing for the University of Arkansas.
He got over the opening height 2.17m on his first try but it took two attempts to get over 2.22.
Joint defending champion, Gianmarco Tamberi who had some medical issues that saw him spending time in a Paris hospital, also failed to get over 2.27m.
New Zealand’s Hamish Kerr won with 2.36m, same height cleared by American Shelby McEwan with the other joint defending champion Mutaz Essa Barshim taking third with a season’s best 2.34m.
