MONTEGO BAY, St James — John Rollins Success Primary won their first St James Football Association VMBS Under-13 title yester day, after beating Corinaldi Avenue Primary 1-0 in the final at the UDC field.
A flashing header from Shawn Kitson in the first half was the difference between two equally matched teams, in a game played in muddy underfoot conditions and in a steady drizzle for all of the second half.
It was a perfect season for John Rollins Success Primary, who made it past the second round for the first time since they started playing in 2005, as they won all eight games — four in the first round, both in the quarter-finals, the semis and final, conceding only one goal.
John Rollins Success Primary won their last four games by 1-0 margins.
It was the first goal that Corinaldi Avenue Primary were conceding all season, as they won six of their eight games played.
John Rollins Success Primary made the best of their temporary one-man advantage as Corinaldi Avenue's best defender, Jadan Jumpp was on the sidelines being treated for an injury.
Kitson met the cross from a freekick taken from the left, and guided it past goalkeeper Ashani Levy in the 18th minute of the 30-minute per half game.
Jumpp, one half of twin brothers, was sent to the side line by a crunching tackle from the burly Brandon Timberlake, retaliation for a tackle from Jumpp minutes earlier.
John Rollins Success Primary played most of the second half in their own half, with Timberlake and Mikhail Samuels, who scored the winner in the semi-finals, leading the counter-attcaks.
