God of Love returns to the winners' enclosureTuesday, June 15, 2021
BY HURBUN WILLIAMS
God of Love got the best of the better-than-average three-year-old and upwards Overnight Allowance campaigners by all of 5 1/2 lengths to march to his 10 th-career victory from 28 races at Caymanas Park on Monday, May 7.
A five-year-old bay gelded son of Adore The Gold owned by Vincent Maine and trained by Fitzgerald Richards, who was installed as the 7/5 favourite, made up for previous missed opportunities with jockey Dane Nelson, who was recalled to the saddle and who executed his victory in a time of 1:06.2 with splits of: 23.2, 46.2.
Laban, one of the strongest finishers in the line-up, was closest to the winner under Dane Dawkins; Universal Boss then finished third under Phillip Parchment with old-timer Chace The Great completing the frame ridden by Shane Ellis.
“I am quite pleased with the performance as this is Overnight Allowance Company. He ( God of Love) competed against Open Allowance/Grade One Company about two races ago, and Toona Ciliata beat him by three parts of a length. In his last race down the straight, he did not seem to relish the trip, so we trained him and waited for the type of race he likes to come up. We then saw this race and decided to enter him and we were confident of winning this race, really confident as this was not Open Allowance.
“To tell the truth, God of Love and Patriarch are the two easiest horses that ever come under my management to train since I receive my trainer's licence in 2007. For that matter, I would be more pleased getting more horses like these two to train. They are the two best horses that I have got so far to train,” Richards said in his post-race interview.
