AEW’s Mark Henry set for ACW’s Welcome To Jamrock
“World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry is set to be one of the marquee names to feature at All Caribbean Wrestling’s (ACW) Welcome To Jamrock show on Saturday evening.
The nine-match professional wrestling event is the first in Jamaica in around 25 years and will feature women’s matches for the first time in Jamaica’s history.
ACW Chief Executive Officer JB Cool told the Jamaica Observer recently that Henry, a two-time Olympic weightlifter, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Hall of Famer, and former World Heavyweight Champion now turned All Elite Wrestling (AEW) presenter, was always eager to be a part of the ACW show.
“He just hit me up the other day when he found out that what he had to do for AEW was off, but he’s always been a backer of ACW, so now I was just like, ‘What you doing? Why don’t you come?’
“And he said, ‘Yeah, let’s make it happen,” Cool said. “He went and made sure that he spoke to Tony (Khan, AEW general manager) and Tony cleared him. So, he said, ‘Let’s go,’ and that’s all I needed to hear.”
Henry retired from in-ring activity in 2018 and Cool says his appearance in ACW this Saturday will be similar to his role on AEW programming where he interviews the talent.
“He’s also a scout [for AEW] and this is the reason why I’ve been telling a lot of people, ‘It doesn’t matter where in the world because you never know the opportunities that may present themselves.”
ACW’s other talent is already settled in Jamaica and looking forward to the show. This includes former IMPACT Wrestling star “Pope” Elijah Burke, who previously went by the ring name “Pope” D’Angelo Dinero.
Burke will defend the ACW World Heavyweight Championship in one of the night’s main events, against “Daredevil” PJ Black, formerly known as Justin Gabriel of the Nexus in WWE.
“We wanna talk about the champion, if you will, and we wanna talk about the headliner, the ACW Heavyweight champion,” Burke said during an interview on Edge 105 FM’s The Burgerman Show on Wednesday. “We’re gonna be squaring off in the squared circle for the ACW Heavyweight Championship. If you’re a betting man, you’re gonna want to put your money on Pope!”
Cool says one of the highlights of the show is that the women’s division will feature prominently, with three matches on the night, one of them being a main event.
Crystal Carmichael faces Promise Braxton; Vanessa Kraven takes on Cassandra Golden; and “Caribbean Gyal” Joseline Navarro, from Ocho Rios, faces Dominican Republic’s JC Storm.
The event takes place at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium at the University of Technology, Jamaica with doors open at 7:00 pm and the first match starting at 8:00 pm.
