AIA ends Irwin’s perfect run
IRWIN, St James — Athletes In Action (AIA) handed Irwin Academy their first loss on Saturday and took over the lead in the St James Football Association’s Sandals Resorts International Under-17 competition.
Raheem Lee scored a second-half double for AIA as they came from behind to win 2-1 as both teams ended the game with 10 players after Jaleel Drummond of Irwin and Conrad Daley of AIA were sent off in the 79th minute for fighting.
St James High, meanwhile, moved into third place after beating St James Academy 5-2, while Green Pond joined Granville United on nine points after edging them 1-0. Montego Bay United got their first point of the season with a 0-0 draw against Montego Bay Boys Club.
At Irwin High, the prolific Detroy Reid gave Irwin Academy the lead in the 27th minute with his eighth goal of the season and his fifth in a row.
Lee brought AIA back level in the 54th minute and then gave them the lead in the 68th minute.
St James High led 3-1 at half-time against their training partners, with goals from Sanjay Reece in the fourth minute, Jaleel Barnett in the eighth, and Kevon Donaldson in the 21st. Akeem Walker pulled one back in the 34th minute.
Tyese Christie made it 4-1 in the 43rd minute, but Kenardo Green scored St James Academy’s second goal in the 54th minute to make the score 4-2 before Jordan Campbell scored St James High’s fifth goal in the 63rd.
Green Pond rebounded from their loss to Montego Bay Boys Club in the previous round to edge Granville United 1-0, thanks to a 76th-minute goal from Garth Bromwell.
