THE long-awaited annual general meeting of the Jamaica Basketball Association (JBA) will be held today at the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) Office, starting at 10:00 am.
Seeking the top post of the association will be four candidates-- Dr Mark Broomfield, Paulton Gordon, Douglas Reid and Major Clifton Lumsden.
The top post was made vacant after president Ajani Williams decided not to seek re-election at the end of his tenure. The election of officers have been postponed on many occasions since.
As a result of the many postponements, an interim committee was formed to continue running the affairs of the association leading to today's elections.
A total of 18 votes are up for grabs, and casting of votes among the confederations -- southern, northern, western and central will be very crucial among the affiliated clubs.
Major Lumsden is the president of the Business House Basketball Association (BHBA) for many years; Reid is a former president of the Western Basketball Association (WBA); Dr Broomfield is a former player for Braves Chiefs; and Gordon was an executive member of the past administration.
Other positions to be contested include first, second and third vice-presidents, secretary, assistant secretary, treasurer, assistant treasurer and four council members to manage the association's business for the next two years.
