Boscobel, Port Maria clash in St Mary T20 Blast
Defending SDC champions Boscobel, smarting from their recent loss, will tackle a pumped up Port Maria aggregation in the lone match of the Sandals and Costley Construction-sponsored St Mary T20 Blast at Boscobel Oval, St Mary, today starting at 1:30 pm.
In another game at 9:30 am, Mango Valley will go up against Buff Bay United from Portland
Both team have one win apiece and will be looking for a win to try and qualify for the play-offs.
Last Sunday, a massive crowd watched the champs lose to Gayle and this Sunday they are expected to once again come out in their numbers to witness the star-studded showdown.
Both Boscobel and Port Maria are two of the top teams in the parish, and although both are without their national representatives, Alywn Williams for Boscobel and Aldane Thomas for Port Maria, they still showcase some exciting talent.
Boscobel will be led by talented opening batsman Orlando Lyons and the stylish strokemaker will have with him the likes of top all-rounder Tyrone Daley, wicketkeeper-batsman Maurice Harrow and young Tacky High player Rojae Brown. However, the player who could be Boscobel’s trump card is former West Indies Under-19 fast bowler Andel Gordon who has been in irrepressible form of late.
Port Maria will enter the match as underdogs but possess the players to upset the applecart. Ronville Brown is battle tested and will have by his side former West Indies Under-19 Captain Andre Creary, hard-hitting Javon Nembhard the former Jamaica Under-15 player, Captain Richard Creary and exciting young fast bowler Jevaughny Shim, the MVP of the recent Kingston Wharves competition. Word is that Carlos Brown could also make his debut for Port Maria.
Boscobel skipper Lyons says his team has shaken off their first match defeat and will be looking to play their best cricket on Sunday against the formidable Port Maria aggregation, while Creary says he expects his team to give a good account of themselves.
Tournament Director Wain Lynch observed that some exciting cricket is being played in the competition and expects the trend to continue. He pointed out that the injection of schoolboys in all the teams has added to the flavour of the league and the youngsters have been giving a good account of themselves.
“This competition is focusing heavily on player development, not just results and we are extremely happy to be fulfilling our mandate,” Lynch noted.
Meanwhile, Mango Valley will be banking on Jordan Pinnock and Nedroy Pinnock, while Buff Bay will look to Kevon Baugh to lead them to victory.
