EPL title down to the last game
...while in Italy’s Serie A it’s the same

The English Premier League title race between Manchester City and Liverpool will go down to the final match of the season, with City leading the Reds by one point and in pole position to win a fourth title in five seasons. while over in Italy, the Serie A title will also be decided on the final day between defending champions Inter Milan and cross-town rivals AC Milan, with Inter Milan needing to win and hoping AC Milan suffer a loss or a draw in their match.

Event # 1 – ITA, Inter Milan vs Sampdoria

The Serie A title race goes down to the wire and will be decided on the final day of the season, Sunday, May 22, and the only thing defending champions Inter Milan can do is win their match at home to Sampdoria and hope that AC Milan fail to win away at Sassuolo or the title will be heading to their local rivals who have not won a Serie A title in over a decade. Buoyed by their 3-1 win over Cagliari, Inter Milan will be aiming to defend their title when they host Sampdoria, trailing the leaders AC Milan by two points, making this is a must-win game for the reigning champions. With that said, Inter Milan will enter this match high on confidence, having won five of their last seven league meetings with Sampdoria, while they also bring a four-match winning run, including their Coppa Italia final win over Juventus.

Sampdoria, on the other hand, have been having their ups and downs of late, beating the likes of Genoa and Fiorentina at home, while losing to Lazio on the road. However, Sampdoria tend to perform well against Inter Milan in recent times, with the reverse fixture ending in a 2-2 stalemate. Looking at the recent fixtures between both sides, none of the last six matches have seen fewer than three goals scored, as a result, fans could be treated to a goal-fest on Sunday.

KEY STATS

Inter Milan – have five clean sheets in their last seven league matches at home, while their last five matches have produced over 2.5 goals.

Sampdoria – four of Sampdoria’s last five matches have produced under 2.5 goals. Sampdoria have one win in seven away league matches.

Both sides – Inter Milan have won their last six meetings against Sampdoria, three of which were away. But Inter Milan rarely put in a flawless performance against Sampdoria, so expect Sampdoria to get on the scoresheet. However, Inter’s quality should tell and secure the win.

The betting tip. Inter Milan win.

Event # 2 EPL – Manchester City vs Aston Villa

It has come down to this: Defending Premier League champions Manchester City needing to better or match Liverpool’s result on the final day of the season to lift the Premier League title on Sunday.

Manchester City will host Aston Villa in a must-win match if they are to win their fourth Premier League title in the last five seasons. The defending champions lead second-placed Liverpool by a single point and are aware that they can’t afford any slipups at home against an Aston Villa side that they have beaten in their last eight head-to-head meetings. City beat Villa 2-1 on the road earlier this season and will be confident of securing another home win against the Villans having only lost twice at home this season. City have not lost in the league since February 19, and even though they drew 2-2 away to West Ham in their last game, they surely will not allow their title to slip through their fingers on the final day of the season, especially with them being at home.

Aston Villa arrive at the Etihad looking to end the season on a high, having battled to safety from the relegation zone. Villa will want to ensure they sign off their campaign on a positive note, rather than with a hammering from City. With former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard now at the helm and former fan favourite Phillippe Coutinho now pulling the strings at Villa, Liverpool fans will be hoping that both men could help Villa produce an unlikely upset. However, looking at the head-to-head results going back to the 2019 season to present, City have won all of those matches, scoring 21 goals during this run.

KEY STATS

Man City – victory for Manchester City will secure them their eighth top-flight title, the outright fifth-most in history since its inception in 1888. It would be their sixth Premier League title (outright second-most after Manchester United’s 13), and their fourth in the last five seasons. Meanwhile, Man City have won all five of their final league games of the season under Pep Guardiola – it’s the best such 100 per cent record for a manager in the competition’s history.

Aston Villa – Aston Villa have lost 15 of their last 16 away league games against Man City, losing each of the last 11 in a row since a 2-0 win in April 2007. This run of 11 is the Villans’ longest away losing streak against an opponent in their league history.

Both sides – Man City have won nine of their last 10 Premier League games against Aston Villa (D1), including the last six in a row. Their last defeat to the Villans came at Villa Park in September 2013 (2-3).

The betting tip. City win.
