Jackson, Gayle among J’cans for Birmingham meet
WORLD Indoor Championships finalist Shericka Jackson and former World Championships long jump gold medallist Tajay Gayle are among three Jamaicans down to compete at the Birmingham World Indoor Tour Final of the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting in Great Britain today.
Jackson, who ran a personal best 7.04 seconds at last year’s World Athletics Indoor Championships in Serbia, and Natasha Morrison will compete in a quality 60m field while Gayle, who competed last weekend at the National Stadium, will compete in an indoor long jump competition for the first time since 2019.
Jackson and Morrison will have their hands full when they face the likes of Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith, who broke her national record when she ran 7.04 seconds in late January, and her compatriot Daryl Neita who ran a lifetime best 7.05 seconds last weekend.
Gayle, who has battled injuries the last two seasons, jumped 7.51m last weekend and will today face three men who have gone over 8.00m already.
American William Williams jumped a personal best 8.20m this year while Marquis Dendy, also of the USA, and Sweden’s Thobias Montler have all had 8.00m plus efforts already.
