Jordon Reign’s tramples all comers in feature race
Jordon Reign’s, in another impressive performance, easily brushed aside rivals to win the $1.5-million Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame Stakes Trophy feature race at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Travelling six furlongs (1,200m), the four-year-old American-bred bay gelding Jordon Reign’s turned on the pressure in deep stretch to defeat rivals by 2 ¾ lengths. He completed the three-year-old and upward Open Allowance/Graded Stakes contest in a time of 1:12.3.
It wasn’t the best of starts for Jordon Reign’s as jockey Dick Cardenas held the bay gelding in fourth place at the off, watching Lure of Lucy (Anthony Thomas) setting the pace ahead of Eagle One (Jordan Barrett) and Go Deh Girl (Tevin Foster).
Jordon Reign’s held his gallop, navigating the half-mile turn in third position, then overtaking Go Deh Girl to join the two leaders approaching the distance. Jordon Reign’s pulled alongside both horses at the top of the lane and wasted no time in slipping away from rivals to register his second-consecutive win. Lure of Lucy finished second and Duke (Dane Dawkins) third.
It was the second winner on the 10-race for Parsard as he saddled Big Jule in the supporting feature event, the $1.1-million Reynold “Ren” Gonzalves Memorial Cup over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m).
Ridden by Dane Dawkins, Big Jule won the three-year-old and upward Non-Restricted Overnight Allowance contest by an ever-increasing eight lengths ahead of Best Daughter Ever (Cardenas) and Ras Emanuel (Linton Steadman). The winning time for the race was 1:58.2.
Big Jule was also the second winner for Dawkins as the title chasing jockey had earlier won the third race aboard Funky Fashion for trainer Errol Pottinger.
Also with two winners were jockeys Omar Walker, Tevin Foster, and Anthony Thomas.
Walker won aboard She’s So Fabulous in the first race for trainer Dennis Thwaites and Superluminal in the eighth race for trainer Victor Williams. Foster was successful aboard Morimoto in the second race for trainer Anthony Nunes and XY Soul for trainer Gary Griffiths in the fourth race, while Thomas won aboard Sudden Flight for trainer Nicholas Smith in the fifth race and Runway Icon for trainer Howard Jaghai in the 10th and final event.
Racing continues today with a nine-race programme. First post is at 12:30 pm.
