Lorne Donaldson among honourees at 38th Bell/Ziadie Memorial
Former national senior women’s football head coach, Lorne Donaldson will be among four honourees at the 38th staging of the Bell/Ziadie Memorial Football Festival on Monday at St George’s College in Kingston.
The event is scheduled to start at 2:00 pm, and will feature a host of celebrities including rising dancehall star Laa Lee.
Donaldson recently guided the senior Reggae Girlz to a historic second round appearance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. He will be honoured alongside former national player Calvin “Webber” Stewart, former national and St George’s College star; Cornell “Granny” Marshall, the father of retired Reggae Boy Tyrone Marshall; and Othneil “Dolphy” Gordon, the curator at Jamaica College.
The Bell/Ziadie Memorial Football Festival is staged in honour of two of Jamaica’s most influential football figures, Winthrop “Jackie” Bell and Dennis Ziadie, both of whom died in a bus crash while attending the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
Four teams in Christian Ambassadors, St George’s College Old Boys, Referees and Masters and Entertainers will play round-robin games against each other throughout the day.
Laa Lee of “Leggo the Bird” fame will join the likes of Luton Fyah, Nesbeth, Livingston Scott, George Davis, Lincoln Taffe, Denton Shedden and Fabian Watkins on the Masters and Entertainers team.
Walter Boyd, Ali Rose, Nick Ziaide and Calvin Hunter will be on the St George’s team while the Referees team will consist of Carvel Banton, Karl Tyrell, Jermaine Yeesing, Stefon Dewar, Odette Hamilton and Keeble Williams.
The Christian Ambassadors will have in their lineup the likes of Lloyd Richardson, Phillip Riley, Alicia Richards, Damion English, Richard Galilee and Crystal Walters.
