‘Loyal’ all the way in Knutsford Park Cup feature
IN a display of his riding prowess, jockey Tevin Foster masterfully booted home three winners to highlight the 10-race programe at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Fosters’ winners included the Paul Swaby-conditioned Loyal Action who won the $1.02-million Knutsford Park Cup feature race, a Restricted Allowance II contest for native-bred three-year-olds (non-winners of two) and imported three-year-olds and upward (maidens) over six furlongs (1,200m).
Loyal Action started the race in second place behind Digital Light (Youville Pinnock) but rapidly took command as they approached the half-mile (800m) bend. Burlap then pushed Loyal Action as they approached the distance but the bay colt found another gear in deep stretch and easily won by 7 1/2 lengths.
Burning Valor (Roger Hewitt) came in second, followed by Geolithic (Reyan Lewis) in third. The overall time for the event was 1:14.4 (23.1 x 47.2).
Snowflakes for trainer Colin Ferguson in the second race, and Power From Above for trainer Anthony Nunes in the sixth race were Foster’s other winners on the day.
Foster’s season count now stands at 43 victories, 15 behind leader Reyan Lewis (58 wins) in the fight for the 2023 jockey’s championship. Lewis had one victory in the eighth race with Is That A Fact for champion trainer Jason DaCosta.
In the ninth race, defending champion Dane Dawkins won with Get A Pepsi for trainer Errol Burke — his 42nd winner of the season — for third place in the jockeys’ race. Former champion Anthony Thomas sits fourth in the standings with 37 victories after bringing home two winners in the third race, Faulyna Forever for trainer Lennis Shim, and The Exodus for trainer Steven Todd in the 10th and final race.
Racing continues today with another 10-race card. Post time is 11:45 am.
