Lue hails superb Spencer, Bird after duo flies away with TT gold
Following their gold medal win on Sunday in the boys’ Under-11 team event, Jamaica’s pair of Ajani Spencer and Anthony Bird returned to capture gold in the doubles match at the 2022 Caribbean Region Table Tennis Federation (CRTTF) Mini-Cadet (U-11) and Pre-Cadet (U-13) Table Tennis Championship in Guyana on Monday.
Playing at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown, Spencer and Bird defeated the pair Zion Hickerson and Kayden Musea from Guyana 3-1 in the grand finale.
President of the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA) Andrew Lue continues to give high praise to the duo as they move on in their growth on the competitive front.
“Ajani and Anthony play very well as a team. They have developed chemistry that made winning their doubles gold medal hard to bet against,” Lue told the Jamaica Observer.
“This follows their gold medal in the BU11 team event. I am [now] anticipating good performances in the more competitive singles event as well,” he continued.
In addition to the two gold medals, Jamaica at time of writing had captured silver in the girls’ Under-13 and bronze in the boys’ Under1-3 team events.
