Russell fails to fire and Originals stumble to third-successive loss
MANCHESTER, England, (CMC) — Embattled West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell failed to make an impact, and Manchester Originals slumped to their third defeat in The Hundred on Saturday when Dawid Malan hit an unbeaten 98 to power undefeated Trent Rockets to an eight-wicket win.
Phil Salt, whose cricketing background includes a spell in Barbados, hit six fours and two sixes in the top score of 70 off 46 balls to lead the Originals to 189 for three from their 100 balls, after they were sent in to bat during the match at Old Trafford.
Russell made only 16 from 10 balls, which included one four and one six, before he was caught at long-off trying to launch former England spinner Samit Patel over the ropes.
Rockets chased down the target having six balls remaining, with Malan cracking three fours and nine sixes from 44 balls to lead the way.
Russell was ineffective with his pace bowling, delivering only 10 balls, conceding 27 runs, and coughing up three sixes along the way.
