Weddings are all about family and friends gathering around newly-weds to celebrate their commitment to one another. Couples are doing their very best to create a celebration that keeps their family and friends both entertained and comfortable. Therefore, they are putting much thought into the seating arrangements for guests, and we're not just talking about reception tables!
Lounges have quickly come to the forefront as one of the hottest trends for weddings.
Some couples only rent a few pieces of lounge furniture to use in a transitional space between the ceremony and reception; however, many are opting for an entire lounge-style reception.
Since guests are going to dine, dance and mingle, you should offer them a place to sit and converse.
This popular wedding trend can be set up during cocktail hour or the reception. Traditionally, a lounge was usually set up for guests to be able to sit during cocktail hour, before being seated for dining.
When used at a reception, it calls for a more casual relaxed ambience, with a menu featuring cocktail-style items and hors d'oeuvres as opposed to a more traditional sit-down dinner. Lounges provide a more interactive experience for the guests and are a great décor design element.
Wedding lounge areas — characterised by plush lounge furniture, chic coffee tables, and ottomans — are, in essence, intimate stations set to encourage guests to relax in a cosy place, get to know each other, and enjoy a drink while they take a break from the dance floor.
I've seen some beautiful lounges at tented receptions, outdoor weddings and ballroom affairs.
No matter your wedding location or style, a lounge provides a great opportunity to customise the aesthetics of the space with the design set-up.
Complete your wedding lounge décor look to include couches with throw pillows, side and cocktail tables, high cocktail tables with stools and bars.
My design tip is to apply the same concept in different elements throughout the event in a consistent way and repeat it throughout the space. Choose a rental company that has a large inventory with the ability to mix and match existing and custom pieces.
The lovelier the reception lounge, the more likely guests are to utilise the space whether in cocktails or the reception area. This has proven to be a hit with brides.
