Food Awards Judge Oneal Johnson at Rojo
We’re Counting Down To The Food Awards And Our Judges are Making Individual Notes:
For impeccable service and awesome food, Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards judge Oneal Johnson recommends the Rojo restaurant at the Spanish Court Hotel
Date: Sunday, April 6
Time: 2:00pm Lunch for 4
Cost: $ 24,640 (inclusive of drinks)
The humidity of Kingston on this particular afternoon made eating indoors in air-conditioned comfort a most attractive option. Challenge #1 solved! Our second challenge was to find a convenient spot for us all. The Spanish Court Hotel got the thumbs up for its central location, ease of parking and security.
The welcome, the temperature inside (it was perfect), the comfy chairs and the relaxed atmosphere scored immediately with us all. Our waiter engaged us as he poured water and enquired what we felt like having to drink.
The menus came next. Here’s what we had.
Starters…
Two pumpkin bisques, two servings of crab cakes and a sharing size of the twice-baked goat cheese soufflé.
Mains…
Black Angus Ribeye Penne Alfredo, Snapper Filet and the sweet potato-crusted snapper. Beverages: bottled water, blended fruit punch and pineapple juice.
Professional Service With A Smile…
Our meals came in a timely manner — we never felt rushed and the recommendations made by our waiter were spot on. It was really refreshing to have someone so knowledgeable about the menu offerings. Too many times restaurant staff are content to be mere order takers. Not at this hotel; we had input — from appetisers to main.
There was no space for dessert, but this did not mar our dining experience — we closed our meal with coffee and tea.
Value For Money…
For the impeccable service and awesome food it was money well spent. My friends have since returned.
