Bolt withdraws from National Senior Championships
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Defending World champion Usain Bolt will not be participating at the Supreme Ventures Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) National Senior Championship as his name was not on the latest list of athletes for both the 100m and 200m.
Garth Gayle, the JAAA General Secretary, confirmed to OBSERVER ONLINE that the world record holder who is struggling for form will miss the Championship.
“He has withdrawn and will not be competing at the Championship,” said Gayle.
Bolt has been struggling for form but initially decided to participate despite having a bye to the World Championship in Beijing as the defending champion for both 100m and 200m following a series of slow times by his standard.
The 100m qualifiers will start today at 10:00 am and only seven athletes will advance to the quarterfinal stage set for 6:55 pm in which Bolt was supposed to enter the fray along with Asafa Powell, Yohan Blake, Kemar Bailey-Cole, Nesta Carter and Nickel Ashmeade.
