Rusea’s students remanded
WESTERN BUREAU — Four Rusea’s High School students who went missing from their Hanover homes for more than seven days, and were eventually found at a Montego Bay guest house were remanded in custody yesterday when they appeared in the Montego Bay Family Court.
The four students — two 15 year-olds, one 16 year-old and a 14-year-old — were remanded to the Granville Place of Safety until March 29.
When the girls appeared in court, the judge requested that a probation officer prepare a report on their characters.
The four girls were found at the Brandon Hill Guest House in Montego Bay last week Friday, more than one week after they were reported missing by their parents.
Inspector Rupert Gardener, who is investigating the case, said that their parents have been informed of the current situation, and had not objected. According to him, two of the four girls had left their homes without permission before.
The four girls went missing on February 15, when they left their homes clad in school uniform, but never showed up at Rusea’s. Their parents called in the police after they failed to return home later that day.
The teenaged girls reportedly went to Montego Bay in the company of a fifth student who returned home, but could give no details about the whereabouts of her friends.
There have been cases in the past where teenagers have been used as drug mules by dealers who provide them with airline tickets.
But Inspector Gardener said the police had not linked the girls to any such activity.
