Esher aim for lead in Hanover football
ESHER will take aim at the leadership of the Sandals Negril Hanover Division One football competition, when they play Galaxy in Lucea today.
Esher are well placed on 19 points from 10 games. Waterworks of Lucea lead with 21 points from 10 games, followed by Hedonism II on 20 points from 10 games, and Claremont on 19 points from 11 games.
The rest of the table is completed by Hopewell/Lookout on 16 points from eight games, Middlesex on 14 points from eight games, Couples Negril on 11 points from eight games, Galaxy on nine points from eight games, Central on eight points from 10 games, Superstar on seven points from eight games, and Swept Away on eight points from nine games.
Troubled Kendal/Grange on five points and Sandals Negril on one point are expected to withdraw from the competition this month.
Esher recently handed defending champions Waterworks their first loss of the competition, clipping them 1-0. In other games played recently, Swept Away outscored Claremont 3-2, Red Carpet blanked Galaxy 2-0, Couples and Central played to a goalless draw, Claremont and Hedonism drew 1-1, Swept Away edged Esher 2-1, Middlesex and Kendal/Grange finished 1-1, and claremont beat Couples 1-0. There were walk-over wins for Galaxy, Hopewell, Waterworks and Hopewell again over Sandals, Superstar, Sandals again, and Kendal/Grange respectively.
In another match down to be played today, Sandals Negril are down to play Superstar at Long Bay. Tomorrow, Central go up against Kendal/Grange in Lucea, and Couples Negril play Red Carpet at Long Bay.
Recently, Waterworks had to come from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Red Carpet, while Hopewell recovered from a goal down, and the sending off of their goalkeeper, to take a 2-1 lead against Hedonism, before conceding a late equaliser.
In other matches played recently, Central and Swept Away drew 1-1, Esher crushed Middlesex 4-0, Claremont outscored Sandals 3-1, Waterworks defeated Hopewell 2-0, Red Carpet and Swept Away drew 1-1, Galaxy beat Couples 2-1, and Claremont had an identical win over Central.
Kendal/Grange have conceded points to Esher and Superstar, after losing the use of the field at Green Island High School for mid-week matches. They have not been able to secure a home field since then.
