St James man on sexual assault charges remanded
A St James man, Miguel Lewis, who is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl, was remanded in custody when he appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Allegations are that on March 31 this year, the complainant went to spend time with her sister at Irwin when Lewis, who she knew as a close friend of the family, visited the house. On the night of his visit, it is alleged that he went to her room, placed a hand over her mouth and sexually assaulted her.
Reports are that the teenager told no one of the incident, as she was afraid.
However, when Lewis allegedly approached the young girl for sexual favours on April 4 while on a visit to her home, she decided to tell someone.
On that occasion, it is reported that the accused took the complainant from her bedroom to another room in the home, and fondled her.
She later reported both incidents to her father and the police were brought in to investigate.
Lewis is to return to court on April 17.
