Trelawny 15-y-o cop
FIFTEEN year-old Rochelle Ellis, head-girl at Westwood High School in Trelawny was on Monday given the opportunity to act as the parish’s commanding officer for the day.
The exercise was part of a community outreach programme by the Jamaica Constabulary Force as it celebrates National Police Week with activities across the island.
During her stint as superintendent in charge of the parish, Ellis, who wants to become a linguist, was given the responsibility to answer telephones, inspect non-confidential documents and to address some of the concerns of persons who placed calls to Superintendent Jasmine Tomlinson-Brown’s office.
After her day’s work was over, Rochelle told the Observer that the experience was a very good one.
“Acting as superintendent for the day was a good experience. I learnt a lot and I plan to share the experience with my fellow students,” she said.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Tomlinson-Brown said Thursday that the activities in the parish to mark National Police Week went well.
“It’s going well, we had a well attended public forum in Falmouth on Tuesday night, on Wednesday we had an open-air service in the Albert Town Square and today we had a ‘walk-about’ in the various communities,” she said.
Other activities in the parish during the week included a parade in the Water Square area of Falmouth and an open day at the Trelawny Divisional Headquarters.
Policemen and women in the parish were also involved in painting sections of the Granville Place of Safety.
The week of activities ends today with a sports extravaganza at the Elleston Wakeland sports field.
