Teenaged girl on gun charges
WESTERN BUREAU — Nineteen year-old Triciana “Tracy” Brown is to face the Western Regional Gun Court next Tuesday, on charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and shooting with intent.
Brown, a hairdresser of Savanna-la-Mar, was slapped with the charges on Wednesday following an alleged shoot out between gunmen and the police in Westmoreland last Saturday.
According to the police, at about 7:50 pm a police patrol observed a white Toyota motor car registered 2215DG, travelling along Great George’s Street in Savanna-la-Mar with four people aboard.
The police said that they signalled the driver to stop, but he disobeyed the order and proceeded to drive towards Maylers Street. The police reportedly gave chase, and the occupants of the car allegedly opened fire on the lawmen, who then returned the fire.
During the ensuing gun battle, the police said, two of the occupants abandoned the car and fled into a nearby cane field while still firing at the police. The police said during the more than 30-minute gun battle, one of its service vehicles suffered damages to the left fender and front windscreen.
When the shooting subsided, Livingston Hibbert, one of the occupants of the car, was found with gunshot wounds to the upper section of the body, while Brown was found in the back of the car with a wound to the left middle finger.
A 1.380 semi automatic pistol with its serial number erased, along with four live rounds, was allegedly found in the vehicle.
Hibbert and Brown were taken to the Savanna-la-Mar hospital where Hibbert was pronounced dead and Brown was treated and taken into police custody.
Meanwhile, the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) liaison officer for Westmoreland, Sergeant Alva Douglas told the Observer on Thursday that the police have detained a man who they believe was involved in the shooting incident on Saturday. He is to face an identification parade later this week.
