MP donates school bus to South Trelawny
WESTERN BUREAU : Students living in the constituency of South Trelawny are now benefiting from the service of a school bus that was recently donated to the Schools’ Principal Association by the Member of Parliament for the area, Doreen Chen.
Chen said the bus, which was purchased and refurbished at a cost of $1.8 million with money from her SESP funds, is being used to assist students in the area who are finding it difficult to commute to school.
She noted that as a result of the lack of a proper transportation system in the area, several students were reaching school late and were finding it difficult to get home from school.
“The bus therefore will help to solve this problem,” Chen told the Observer.
She added that it is now costing the students less for transportation as the fares on the bus are much less than the taxi operators.
The management of the school’s bus service is being undertaken by the Schools’ Principal Association, a community-based group.
Already, a number of schools located in South Trelawny are reporting an improvement in the attendance and punctuality level of the students living in the area.
