Busta Cup round-up…

Morton cracks

another century

TORTOLA, British Virgin Islands (CMC) — Runako Morton cracked his second century of the season and helped place the Leeward Islands in command against the Windward Islands on the second day of their Busta Cup match at AO Shirley grounds yesterday.

Morton scored 103 and shared in a 173-run second-wicket stand with Alex Adams (71) that powered the Leewards to 343-7 in response to the Windwards’ first innings 233.

Ridley Jacobs (55) and Anthony Lake (13) are the not batsmen, with their team already 110 runs ahead.

Adams and Morton, whose outstanding early season form earned him a West Indies call to Sharjah after injury to Marlon Samuels, both secured half-centuries as the Leewards moved freely from their overnight 47-1.

Bajans cruising to 1st innings honours

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Barbados, paced by Philo Wallace’s 81 and an unfinished 109-run second-wicket stand between captain, Sherwin Campbell, and Kurt Wilkinson, were cruising towards first innings honours over Bangladesh “A” at the close of their fifth-round match at Kensington Oval.

Barbados, replying to the touring team’s 293 all out, were 244-1 at stumps, with Campbell on 95 and Wilkinson on 52.

After wrapping up the Bangladesh “A” innings in the morning, aggressive Wallace and the more watchful Campbell gave Barbados a sound start and went to lunch at 38 without loss, the alliance blossoming after the break for a century opening stand.

Wallace cracked a thunderous 100-ball 81 with nine fours and two sixes, before he was caught at the mid-wicket boundary by Alamgir Kabir when pulling a short ball from off-spinner, Naimur Rahman.

Chanderpaul, Haniff put team in

driver’s seat

BERBICE, Guyana (CMC) — Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Azeemul Haniff stroked half-centuries and placed Guyana in an excellent position for first innings points against Trinidad and Tobago on the second day of their Busta Cup fifth round match at Albion yesterday.

Guyana, replying to the visitors, 230 all out, closed on 193 for three, with Haniff not out on 63 and captain, Carl Hooper on 16.

Chanderpaul posted 76 for his 42nd first-class half century, and the Guyanese are 38 runs away from the first innings lead with seven wickets in hand entering the third day today.

Mukesh Persad (1) was run-out from silly mid-off by Sewnarine Chattergoon, failing to recover his ground from the close in throw at 211 for nine, and Reon King with his first ball of the day had Ravi Rampaul (10) caught behind by wicketkeeper, Azib Haniff.
