Starfish Trelawny opens its doors
AFTER four months of renovation, the 350-room Trelawny Beach Hotel at Cooper’s Pen district near Falmouth has reopened as Starfish Trelawny.
It will be the first of two northcoast Starfish resorts as the former Club Jamaica is now being upgraded and will be renamed Starfish Ocho Rios.
At the Trelawny property, Aida Issa, wife of SuperClubs executive chairman, John Issa, has extensively refurbished all of the public areas. The upgrading includes areas such as the front lobby promenade, all the restaurants, the front lawn and the courtyard leading to the beach.
The rooms, including 40 ground-level cottages, have been refitted with modern amenities such as mini-bars and direct dial telephones, according to general manager Steven Bethel. Five new restaurants, one of which is Japanese, have also been built and the resort now boasts six bars.
In addition, there are now four swimming pools, including one with a 124-foot water slide for children, and another with an 83-foot water slide and swim-up bar for adults.
An island has also been built as part of the upgrading process.
The family, all-inclusive Starfish Trelawny also features a games arcade, a miniature golf area, a fitness centre, a spa, a kid’s camp, a rock climbing wall, tennis and basketball courts, an ice rink and a host of water sports facilities.
“The resort now features most of the trendy, convenient amenities at many four- and five-star properties anywhere throughout the international destination marketplace,” said the general manager.
