Blythe outlines plans for his constituency
EMBATTLED Central Westmoreland Member of Parliament Karl Blythe, recently outlined some of his plans for his constituency, when he addressed supporters at his first face-to-face meeting since he stepped down as water and housing minister.
Among the list, he said, is to get additional classrooms and a new road to access the Caledonia All-Age School, where the meeting was held.
According to the MP, the roadway leading to the school should be resurfaced within two weeks and a $100,000 container should soon be delivered to the school to alleviate the overcrowding until the additional classrooms are built.
Representatives from the National Water Commission were on hand for Blythe’s presentation and according to parish manager, Patrick Daley, at least three major water supply systems will be commissioned over the next three months.
The Barneyside system, which was established in 1965, is 95 per cent complete and will be completed for com-missioning in June. On completion, this system will be able to supply 400,000 gallons per day, which is in excess of the current demand of 175,000 gallons per day.
The community of Mackfield will also have its water system commissioned in June and it is also 95 per cent complete. It has been served by Shettlewood since 1989 but when completed it will be served by the Whithorn system by way of Haddo.
The Caledonia water supply is 60 per cent complete, as there was a shortage of pipes but according to the parish manager, work will resume within two weeks and the supply commissioned by the end of July.
