Homeless man’s fate to be known before month-end
THE St James Parish Council’s Poor Relief Department should know, before month-end, if a homeless man living inside one of Montego Bay’s historic buildings has any relatives who are willing to take him in.
If no relatives are found, the elderly man known only as Bugs will be placed in the parish’s infirmary.
Bugs has lived inside the cramped confines of The Dome for more than 20 years. The Observer visited the location earlier this year, but the man was unable to give his name, age, or say if he has any relatives.
There are plans to refurbish the structure and he will need to be relocated.
“The Inspector of Poor, (Jeremiah Dehaney) is looking at his case and we should know the result before the end of the month,” said Christopher Powell, secretary/manager of the St James Parish Council.
According to Powell, the parish council will be working closely with the Heritage Trust to refurbish the historic building and he will make contact with that body next week to set up a meeting to move the process along.
