Six guns found
FIVE handguns, part of an M-16 rifle and eight rounds of ammunition were yesterday found in Kingston by a team of police officers from the Special Anti-Crime Task Force (SATCF).
The weapons:
* a Sig Sauer pistol;
* 9mm handgun;
* .25 Beretta;
* .45 semi-automatic pistol-;
* .22 calibre pistol; and
* an M-16 rifle, without the butt and stock, were recovered after a squad led by Senior Superintendent Donald Pusey searched heavy bushes in a lot along Producers Road in downtown Kingston. The weapons were stored in a plastic bag.
“The police will continue to operate as vigorously as is possible and as is necessary until we rid the streets of these illegal guns,” said Corporal Troy Anderson of the Constabulary Communication Network.
Pusey was relieved that the streets were rid of more weapons and vowed to keep up the pressure on criminals.
“Over the years you know where the criminals walk. You basically have to think like them. If I was a criminal, where would I hide my guns at this time? You would think about places where they would stash their arms. They are under pressure and they have their uncertainties now as to the security forces and how they operate,” Pusey said.
The security forces have seized 426 guns and 5,238 rounds of assorted ammunition this year.
