Still no takers for Roaring River Park
WESTERN BUREAU: After more than two months on the market for a concessionaire, there are still no takers for the seven-year-old Roaring River Park attraction at Petersfield in Westmoreland.
But the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo), that has responsibility for the facility, is undaunted and will begin to re-advertise shortly, a recent release from that agency said.
“The ad was placed on November 3, 6 and 9 (last year) with closing date (for tenders) set for November 28, 2002. (There were no takers), therefore the property will be re-advertised,” the government body said.
At the same time the release said the attraction would prove a good “business opportunity” for anyone.
“It is a good business opportunity for individuals. (It is) a cultural heritage (attraction) and natural attraction close to resort areas, particularly Negril. (And it is) likely to have expanded business when the south coast is further developed,” TPDCo said.
The park, which sits on seven and a half acres of land, was developed in 1995. Visitors to the facility are able to enjoy the cave, hike the trail and enjoy the Jamaican cuisine served there.
The facility is now being upgraded at a cost of some $280,000. The upgrading work includes:
. improvements to the sanitary facilities and signage;
. the improvement of internal communication;
. new safety and security supplies; and
. landscaping.
