Snack it…Juicy bun and cheese
Bun and cheese are two long-standing traditions observed here in Jamaica. That ubiquitous pair of bun and cheese is considered a snack staple, and is eaten daily around the island in the same way that patties, bullas, excelsior cream crackers, and hard dough bread are enjoyed. Housewives pick up a couple of these buns, throw them in the bread tin, and keep them around just in case.
‘Schoolers’, construction workers, and office staff, enjoy cutting the round bun in two and filling it with a couple of slices of that soft, salty, popular cheese. Fact is this bun is not quite the same when consumed with any other cheese.
Come Easter time, the bakers will throw in lots more fruits, and other secret ingredients as they prepare for the traditional Good Friday bun and cheese feast. Perhaps, many have given up bun and cheese for Lent and are preparing for that big Easter feast. Others however, are still munching on the smaller variety in preparation of those wonderful large boxes of Easter bun.
With still a couple more weeks to go before Good Friday, and still a couple more days before the supermarkets’ shelves are flooded, the Foodpage prompts the question. Just how many slices are you planning to consume this Easter?
We caught up with a couple of construction workers on Tuesday, putting the finishing touches to some great looking townhouses. Munch time for them comprised…you guessed it round, juicy buns and thick slices of Tastee cheese.
