Westmoreland man found hanging in mom’s backyard
FORTH WILLIAM, Westmoreland — Michael Davidson, a 42 year-old labourer from this rural community was found hanging from a rope suspended from an ackee tree at the back of his mother’s home Monday morning.
Known as Water Bird, Davidson was last seen by his mother, Evelyn, and other relatives on March 2.
The discovery of her son’s body in a wooded area in the backyard of her Bastard Cedar Walk home has rattled Mrs Davidson. But according to relatives, the middle-aged man was addicted to drugs and alcohol and it was the norm for him to threaten to kill himself.
Davidson, a former employee of the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica’s Negril branch, later owned and operated a taxi. But his addictions eroded his quality of life. He was rarely seen by family members and is said to have “hustled” to earn enough to feed his habit.
According to relatives, he even sold his house to keep up with the demands of using drugs.
Questions were raised, Monday about why the 42 year-old man, who has been almost totally estranged from his family, travelled five miles from his home to his mother’s house to take his life.
The body was discovered at about 8:45 am.
The Whithorn police suspect suicide and have ruled out foul play.
