Appeal for security post in Kintyre
Representatives of the two major political parties and the Peace Management Initiative (PMI) yesterday called for a joint police/military post to be established in the troubled St Andrew community of Kintyre.
“This is one situation that we cannot allow to escalate and get out of control, and where there is raw wanton criminality, people must extricate themselves from it and allow the police to do their job,” said Desmond McKenzie, head of the Jamaica Labour Party’s Area One division.
In the past two weeks a spate of killings and reprisal attacks have ripped through the depressed community, causing some residents to flee the area while those who remain live in terror.
