Medical technologists before MoBay court
THE case against three government medical technologists accused of participating in an illegal work stoppage at the Cornwall Regional Hospital last month, has been postponed until April 10.
The three, who appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday, are Warren King, Radcliffe Shakes and Winston Wilkes.
Their attorney, Raymond King, asked Resident Magistrate Paulette Williams to push back the matter closer to the date of his clients’ colleagues, who are facing similar charges in Kingston. He suggested that the matters be dealt with after the case has been aired in the capital.
Saying she was not very familiar with the matter and would also need time to familiarise herself with the case, RM Williams agreed.
Last month, 104 medical technologists withdrew their services for four days, as they pressed their case for a salary increase that would take their pay scale up to the level of scientific officers who, they say, perform similar duties.
The labour ministry referred the matter to the Industrial Dispute Tribunal, which ordered the technicians back to work. They defied the order and the Director of Public Prosecutions made an order for all 33 to be served summonses.
