NEWS Cambridge bridge reopened
THE bridge which connects the communities of Cambridge and Seven Rivers in St James was reopened Thursday, one week ahead of schedule.
It was closed last Wednesday to allow the National Works Agency (NWA) to replace the old structure with a Bailey Bridge.
According to NWA community relations officer, Stephen Shaw, the bridge, which was to be closed for two weeks, is now ready for vehicular traffic.
During the closure, the alternative routes were from Anchovy through Mount Horeb and Chester Castle through Bethel Town to Ducketts.
In the meantime, Shaw said tenders are now being accepted for the construction of a permanent bridge for the community, as the Bailey Bridge is a temporary replacement.
The temporary structure was installed as part of a £14-million bridge construction programme between the Jamaican government and a number of British companies.
