Ja Broilers sales rep faces 31 counts of fraud
ST CATHERINE — A 39 year-old Jamaica Boilers sales representative, who is accused of defrauding the company of $1.5 million, was offered bail in the sum of $1.3 million when she appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrates Court on Friday.
Charged with 31 counts of fraudulent conversion is Karen Perry of Westmore Gardens, Savanna-la-mar, Westmoreland.
According to Detective Corporal Orville Smith of the Old Harbour CIB, between August 2002 and April of this year, Perry collected the funds — generated from chicken sales — from several of the company’s clients in the parishes of Manchester and St Elizabeth.
After a company audit showed that the money was not lodged to the company’s account, the matter was reported to the Old Harbour police and Perry was arrested last Wednesday.
She has been accused of using the company funds for her personal use.
When she appeared in the Old Harbour Resident Magistrate’s Court last Thursday, the sales rep pleaded guilty to all 31 counts of fraud.
Last Friday, one of her relatives partially reimbursed the company with a $800,000 manager’s cheque and Perry is expected to pay the balance at her next court appearance on May 22. She will be sentenced then.
