Siblings remanded in their brother’s murder case
WESTERN BUREAU — Two siblings from Salt Spring in St James, who are accused of the July 4 murder of their older brother, Paul Levy, 32, were on Wednesday remanded in police custody until July 14 when they appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court.
It is expected that Yvonne Levy, 22, and Ian Levy, 18 should have secured legal representation by then. However a third brother, aged 15, who has also been implicated in the murder, remains at large.
It is alleged that at about 8:30 pm on July 4, the three younger Levy siblings got into an argument with their older brother, Paul. During the argument, Yvonne is alleged to have used a knife to stab Paul while Ian chopped him several times with a machete.
The 15 year-old allegedly used a stone to hit Paul.
Following the fracas, Paul was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay for treatment but succumbed to his injuries. His younger siblings were subsequently charged for his murder.
And on June 9 last year, another family fracas inside the Salt Spring community ended in death.
That incident saw two brothers, Adrian and Roger Campbell, engaged in a dispute with their older sister, Dawnette Hyatt, after she went to their home, demanding food. During the altercation, Hyatt reportedly brandished a knife and attempted to stab one of her brothers.
During the attempt, a wound was inflicted to the chest of the trio’s mother, Dorothy Campbell, as she tried to intervene in the dispute. Campbell, then 56, later succumbed to her injuries and Hyatt was arrested and charged for her murder.
Hyatt has since been freed of the charge.
