Vybz Kartel, three followers remain in custody
DANCEHALL DJ Vybz Kartel and three of his followers – Jules Watson; Anthony Wright, alias “Singer Blinger”; and Patrick Samuels, also called “Roach” – who were arrested Tuesday remained in custody last night as the police continued investigations into two murders and shootings in Portmore between 1998 and this year.
All four were questioned at length by investigators at the Flying Squad headquarters in Kingston in the presence of their attorneys, Wentworth Charles and Vivianne Neita-Scott.
“We are still holding them to continue the interviews. They will be dealt with fairly,” an investigator told the Observer yesterday.
The DJ, who has been charged with assault and occasioning grievous bodily harm, following his on-stage fight with Ninja Man at the Sting concert Saturday morning, is also facing a charge of illegal possession of firearm. He is a licensed firearm holder, but the police said he had ammunition which he could not account for. He will have to wait until Wednesday before his legal counsel can make a bail application in the gun court, a police source said yesterday.
Watson, Wright and Samuels have also been charged with assault and occasioning grievous bodily harm, arising from the brawl at Sting.
Ninja Man, who was also charged with assault following the Sting concert, will answer the charge in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court on January 13.
Meanwhile, an officer at the Central police lock-up yesterday denied reports that Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, and his three followers had been harassed by inmates at the jail.
“They are OK. None of them were harmed,” the cop said.
