Patterson to address lawyers’ conference in Negril today
WESTERN BUREAU – Prime Minister P J Patterson will give a televised welcome address to a group of 80 prestigious African American judges and lawyers at the 10th anniversary conference of the Jamaican Sunset Continuing Legal Education which opens in Negril today.
The meeting, which is being staged by the Jamaican Sunset CLE in conjunction with the Louisiana Judicial Council/National Bar Association, will also be addressed by National Security Minister Dr Peter Phillips and Tourism Minister Aloun N’Dombet Assamba on Monday night at 8:00 pm.
The Jamaica CLE has held its annual meeting in the resort town of Negril for the past nine years, with support from the Negril Tree House Restaurant and Grand Lido Resort. The conference is a key forum for judges and lawyers from Louisiana and other jurisdictions for professionally stimulating and fruitful discussion of cutting-edge legal issues.
“The conference will look at new laws, landmark cases, and in fact, all of the latest information as it relates to the various topics discussed will be shared,” coordinator for the event, Judge Michael Bagneris told the Observer yesterday.
Topics to be discussed will cover aspects of:
. criminal law;
. employment law, and
. domestic law.
“On these topics, speakers will ensure that they give the latest information,” Judge Bagneris added.
