American woman faces court on drug charge today
WESTERN BUREAU – An American woman, who lawmen say was caught with 12 pounds of ganja at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay last Friday, is to face the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court today.
Cops have identified her as Cheryl Andrea Isaacs, 28, a nurse’s assistant from Barker Avenue Syracuse, New York. She has been accused of breaching the Dangerous Drugs Act.
According to the narcotics police, at about 6:00 am on Friday, Isaacs was about to board a flight to New York when a sniffer dog alerted airport security personnel to one of two suitcases said to be owned by the American.
The suitcase was searched and 12 pounds of ganja discovered in a concealed area of the luggage. Isaacs was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of, dealing in and taking steps to export the drug. Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the police are looking for a man who ran from the Sangster International Airport, leaving a quantity of hash oil behind in his suitcase. His name, cops said, is Wilbert Fitz Jackson. However, they were unable to give his address and age.
The narcotics police reported that last Thursday Jackson, who booked in at the airport to board a flight destined for Miami, was going through the security checkpoint when the x-ray machine’s screen showed that a suitcase, which he had placed on the machine, contained the contraband. Airport security officials alerted the airport police but before the lawmen could arrive at that section of the airport, Jackson became suspicious and ran. He left all his belongings behind.
When the police searched the suitcase, they found three 3/4 pounds of hash oil hidden in two pairs of brown Clarks shoes. The police searched the airport periphery but Jackson had already escaped. The narcotics police are investigating.
