Man badly injured in boat mishap on Maiden Cay
A man was badly chopped during a boating accident at Maiden Cay off the coast of Kingston, yesterday.
The man, identified as Winston Bryan, was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was being treated last night.
Bryan, also called “Big Fish”, was chopped on the hand, neck and chest after he attempted to unravel a piece of rope which had entangled a propeller on the ‘Wailer One’ boat on which he works. Bryan had reportedly put the boats engine in neutral and started to loosen the rope when someone allegedly put the boat’s engine in gear, causing the propeller to spin, chopping Bryan.
“His right hand was chopped to the bone. I doubt if he will regain full use of the hand,” said Dale Matheson, who told the Observer that he had transported the injured man to hospital.
Maiden Cay is a sand bank south of Lime Cay where boat owners and fisherman rest. The cay is about 150 feet long by 60 feet wide.
