Lawmen shoot two, recover stolen car, gun in St Ann
St Ann’s Bay, St Ann – The police yesterday shot dead two men who allegedly robbed the passengers of a cab and stole the vehicle. The men were unidentified up to press time.
The car was recovered and a gun seized during the early-morning incident, according to the Constabulary Communication Network. According to the official police report, at about 12:00 am yesterday three men got into a taxi at St Ann’s Bay. When the cab neared the A G R Byfield highway, two of the men pulled guns and demanded money from the driver and a passenger.
The armed men then took the driver and the passenger to a cane field in the Llandovery area; they tied them up and left in the cabbie’s vehicle. However, the victims managed to free themselves and made a report to the police.
The taxi was later seen in the Back Street area, with three men aboard.
The men opened fire as cops moved in, there was shoot-out and two of the men were later found suffering from gunshot wounds, the CCN said. A .38 revolver with the serial number erased, with three cartridges and two spent shells, was taken from one of the men, cops said, while the third man escaped on foot in the area.
The injured men were taken to the St Ann’s Bay Hospital where they were pronounced dead, said CCN.
Investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the Montego Bay Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a Hanover man identified only as “Big Tune”.
His body was found with stab wounds at the old shoe market on Creek Street in Montego Bay, St James, yesterday morning.
According to reports from the CCN’s liaison officer for St James, at about 5:00 am yesterday, residents saw the body and notified the police. When cops arrived, they noticed the stab wounds that had been inflicted. The body was removed to the morgue for post mortem and proper identification.
