Nationwide network launched, broadcasts begin Monday
DUBBED the first dedicated all news, sports and current affairs network by its executive producer Cliff Hughes, the Nationwide News Network Limited (NNN) was launched Wednesday in Kingston.
The $67 million network, in its first year, is projected to earn revenues of $150 million.
The first broadcast is slated to air next Monday at noon.
“Our mission is simply this: to be the world’s finest producers and presenters of content about Jamaica and the Caribbean,” said Hughes, who will also be NNN’s chief presenter.
“We feel that no other organisation. including the BBC, can cover what happens in Portmore or St George’s, Grenada or George Town, Guyana. better than we can.”
Noting that NNN aspires to be the face of broadcast journalism, Hughes said this will be accomplished through recruitment, training and an effective business model.
“We are not about one station, we are about producing content with good ideas,” he said.
The new company’s board of directors will be chaired by Ryland Campbell of Capital and Credit Merchant Bank, while Captain Horace Burrell of Captain’s Bakery will be deputy chair.
Other board members include Air Jamaica’s chief restructuring officer, Aubyn Hill, financial controller Wayne Salter, project manager Lenroy Gordon, investment banker Fayval Williams and Howard Mitchell.
Campbell said joining the NNN board was an easy decision for him.
“I feel very strongly that what the company is seeking to do is exciting and a breakthrough with immense potential for others seeking an opportunity to express themselves creatively on an international platform,” he said.
A significant percentage of the NNN revenue, he noted, will be generated internationally as NNN will be a wholesaler of content to local and overseas broadcasters.
