Rio Grande rafters compensated for hurricane damage
SIXTY-EIGHT raft captains who operate on the Rio Grande each got a $10,000 grant Friday to compensate for rafts damaged or lost during Hurricane Ivan.
The grants were allocated from the Tourism Development Fund, administered by the Jamaica Business Development Centre (JBDC) and Development Operations Limited.
The rafters generally run into problems whenever rains flood Berrydale or Grant’s Level where the approximately two-and-a-half hour river journey starts.
Member of Parliament Dr Donald Rhodd urged the raft captains to utilise the funds for their intended purpose – to put their rafts back into operation.
