REGISTERED nurse Janet Spence, 35, who has been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice in relation to the February 26 incident at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital where a doctor allegedly sexually assaulted a patient, was remanded in custody yesterday.

In the meantime, the doctor who was detained by the Denham Town police on Monday, will face an identification parade today.

The police said Spence, an employee at the Kingston Public Hospital, allegedly attempted to bribe the woman who had accused the doctor of raping her in the ultrasound room of the hospital where she was taken to be medically examined.

“In the aftermath of the incident the doctor reportedly offered her a sum of money to keep quiet, which was refused. The nurse then approached her and offered her $500,000 for her not to report the matter. This offer was also refused,” the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported yesterday.

“Following investigations, statements were collected and the nurse was arrested and charged,” the CCN said. She appeared in the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday and was remanded in custody. She is scheduled to reappear in court on March 18.
