New police headquarters for Clarendon by June
MAY PEN, Clarendon (JIS) – A new police station and divisional headquarters is being developed in May Pen, a $58.5 million project that involves the transformation of an existing structure.
The local police force will be relocated from their current base into the new facilities in two and a half months.
Raymond Ramdath, director of the Facilities and Property Management Unit in the Ministry of National Security, said the relocation should take place early June.
“We are confident that by June, the Clarendon Police will be benefiting from their new facilities, which will ultimately impact on the level of service that they are able to offer the public,” said Ramdath.
The new headquarters is being fitted with lock-ups for prisoners, additional generators are being installed, as well as fixtures and fittings, and air conditioning.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the police men and women being given facilities that can make them comfortable, so that their performance can be commensurate with the space in which they exist,” said Superintendent in charge of Clarendon Terence Bent.
There will be accommodation for 41 constables, three sub-officers and four officers. There will also be a library, dining facilities, a lounge, laundry, gym and a games room.
The project is being handled by contractor HDB Construction Limited, which was awarded the job on June 11, 2004.
The national security ministry is upgrading 40 to 50 stations across the island, over a period of five years.
